CHANA MASALA USING HOMEMADE CHANA MASALA POWDER
Ingredients:Chana / Konda Kadalai - 1/2 cup
Onion - 1 small
Tomato - 1 small
Ginger Garlic Paste - 1 t spoon
Garam Masala Powder - 1/4 t spoon
Turmeric Powder - 1/4 t spoon
Chilly Powder - 1/4 t spoon
Salt as needed
Oil - 1 tbl spoon
Butter - 1 tbl spoon
Coriander Leaves - 2 t spoon
Lemon - 1/2
To roast and grind:
Cardamom - 2
Cloves - 2
Biriyani Leaf - 1
Cinnamon - 1 stick
Ajwain - 1/4 t spoon
Pepper - 5
Fennel Seeds - 1 t spoon
Cumin Seeds - 1 t spoon
Coriander Seeds - 1 t spoon
Kashmiri Red Chilly - 2
Dry roast the above ingredients for roasting until browned.
Grind to a fine powder using a mixer and keep aside.
Soak chana overnight and pressure cook for 15 minutes in medium flame.
Heat oil in a pan and fry chopped onion until golden. Add ginger garlic paste and sauté until raw smell leaves.
Add chopped tomato, turmeric powder, salt, garam masala, chilly powder, ground masala powder and cook in low flame until the tomato turns mushy and the masala gets cooked well. Add little water if needed.
Add the cooked chana along with the water and cook covered for 5 minutes. Mash some chana using the laddle so that the masala gets little thick.
Cook in low flame until we get the required consistency.
Add butter and juice of 1/2 lemon and mix well.
Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and enjoy chole masala with chappathi.
