MILAGU KULAMBU / PEPPER GRAVY

MILAGU KULAMBU

Ingredients :
Oil - 2 tbl spoon 
Mustard seeds - 1/2 t spoon 
Fenugreek Seeds - 1/4 t spoon 
Cumin Seeds - 1/2 t spoon 
Pepper - 1/4 t spoon 
Curry Leaves - 1 spring 
Small Onion - 10
Garlic - 10
Tamarind - 1 lemon Sized
Salt as needed 
Red Chilly Powder - 1/2 t spoon 
Turmeric Powder - 1/4 t spoon 
To Dry Roast:
Pepper - 1 t spoon 
Rice - 1 t spoon 
Fenugreek Seeds - 1/4 t spoon 
Asaefotida - 1/4 t spoon 
Cumin Seeds - 1 t spoon 
For Masala Paste:
Small Onion - 5
Garlic - 6
Urad Dal - 1/2 t spoon 
Chana Dal - 1/2 t spoon 
Cumin Seeds - 1/2 t spoon 
Coriander Seeds - 1 t spoon 
Curry Leaves - 2 spring 
Pepper - 1 t spoon 


      Soak tamarind in water for 1/2 an hour.          Dry roast pepper, rice, fenugreek seeds, cumin seeds until aromatic and grind with asafoetida to a fine powder.


      Add 1 t spoon oil and sauté small onion, garlic, urad Dal, chana Dal, cumin, coriander seeds, curry leaves, pepper until onion turns soft.


      Grind with 1/2 t spoon red chilly powder and water to a fine paste.


      Add 2 tbl spoon oil in a pan, allow mustard seeds, cumin, fenugreek, pepper to splutter.
      Add chopped small onion, garlic, curry leaves and sauté until soft.


      Add tamarind water, masala paste, ground masala powder, salt and mix well.



      Add 1/4 cup water and cook covered for 15 minutes in lower flame.
      Add 1/4 t spoon jaggery ( optional) and switch off the flame.


      Enjoy pepper kulambu with hot rice.
